Personalised support beyond diagnosis

Understanding your child’s diagnosis

This programme is designed to support adults, teens, and young people in understanding and managing their diagnosis, whether this is ADHD, autism or a combined diagnosis.

We aim to help children and young people find clarity and acceptance in relation to their diagnosis. The programme is designed to help empower your child to develop self-awareness and find effective strategies for managing their symptoms and ultimately enhancing daily functioning.

Navigating a diagnosis can seem overwhelming, our friendly clinicians will encourage your child to reflect on their personal experiences, recognising both strengths and areas of challenge.

Keeping your child safe

Our clinicians have a duty of care to keep your child safe and undergo appropriate safeguarding training whilst working for us.

Whilst what is said within the sessions is confidential, it will always be explained to your child that if they tell us anything that we believe puts them or others in immediate harm or danger we will need to break that confidentiality. We would always encourage them to also talk to you about this but keeping them safe is our main concern.

If you are concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing presentation at home, there are a number of resources you can explore together to support them:

If feel you cannot keep your child safe you can always go to your local Accident and Emergency Department at your local Hospital.

What to expect

Our Patient Services Team will be in touch via telephone to arrange your child’s introductory support session. This session will be delivered via a secure video platform, and a link will be emailed to you at the time of booking.

In your child’s first 60-minute session their clinician may gain some background information to explore particular areas of difficulty and discuss how the sessions will look moving forward each week. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Future sessions will be held weekly and for 60 minutes.

Online sessions

The space in which it is conducted must be the right fit for those accessing it. For some, talking face to face with a professional is not a concern, but for many it can be overwhelming and stressful even within the most comfortable of settings.

Digital sessions allow children to access our intervention with more anonymity and with the ability to pick where they feel comfortable for their sessions to take place. Our clinicians are trained and experienced in working digitally and come with resources and ideas to help children and young people engage on the digital platform. As with face-to-face work, all our clinicians are supervised by an experienced supervisor [SA1] and their work is audited internally to ensure that your child is getting the best standard of practice they deserve.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will be offered?

We offer our post-diagnostic support in blocks of four. Your first session is a one-to-one introduction—designed to help you take that first step with clarity and confidence, at your own pace. The following three sessions are tailored to your individual needs, sessions may include psychoeducation and are always shaped around what matters most to you. For younger individuals, we include parent involvement to ensure the right support is in place.

How are sessions attended?

Sessions are held remotely, we find this makes it easier to attend and makes sessions more accessible. Sessions are held via a secure video connection, this is to ensure that you and your child gets the most of out of the sessions.

How often do sessions take place?

We recommend you attend sessions weekly, however, our team can support you to book the appointments around your schedule and at times that work for you and your child.

We find that people gain more from their sessions through regular attendance, however we understand that there may be times when circumstances change.
